“Funky Light”, the 4th Digital Art Festival of Taipei was held at the Red House in Xi Men Ding. This digital art performance opened an new door for digital art in 2009. The festival was launched by Mr. Zhang Yuan-Xi, CEO of Asia Cultural Council, Mr. Huang Wen-Hao and, Mr. Zhang Ci-Fu, CEO and Art Director of Taipei Digital Art Center respectively. It has now become a highly anticipated performance of famous Taipei artists Liu Guo-Song, Chang Yung-Ta, Huang Yi, Yao Zhong-Han and Ye Ting-Hao. A performance that crossed 3 generations, containing modern elements and a fragmented vision. During the artistic creation process, the 4 artists were working in different locations, using their own interpretation and language to converse with one another. The creative journey was marvelous, it was as if they were each talking in their own language, the interaction of the 3 different generations created various parameters of change. Towards the end, the only thing that did not change was the determination of art and the anticipation to achieve the same goal. In the end, relationships arose, when both parties rubbed together, creating unpredictable sparks.

The opening performance of “Funky Light” is a journey through time, where violent, unpleasant, flowing sounds and visuals are used to astound audiences waiting to be taken for a ride. During the trip, visuals and music rapidly flicker past the audience, slowing down momentarily to guide audiences through the time tunnel, from a noisy beginning to a quiet ending as if they were being removed from reality just like in a Science fiction film, traveling through time and space. Finally dancer Huang Yi will use his limbs to extend Liu Guo-Song’s revolutionary spirit, this performance is an act brought together by the interpretations of different generations towards digital art, fully symbolizing the vision of the 4th Taipei Digital Art Festival.

“Light Construction” uses digital technologies, using light, shadows, colors, pictures, infrastructure, sounds etc, to reconstruct a scene of public infrastructure. This enables the possibility of interaction between digital media, infrastructure and public spaces, enabling the public to participate and enjoy the show outdoors.

Through light, we can see new forms of infrastructure: when the light changes we can see changes in infrastructural forms and shapes. An actual wall and light construction creates a virtual interface, revealing a line that exists between continuously missing, continuously changing forms and shapes, an infrastructure form caused by weaving light and sounds. “Light Construction” uses digital technology to create new “incidents”, utilizing light, shadows, and infrastructures to create virtual infrastructural scenery, moving our inner senses, making us imagine a scene that is out of our reality.

A box and virtual network space, walking out of the Fine Arts Museum, “Light Construction” kicks off a brand new model of conversation between digital media and people in the city.

We live in a world that everything has its standard, guide or rule. We're asked to be make things as perfect as possible. But we're not a machine, we'll make mistakes. Like symphony, the performer doing their best to perform perfectly, people can't tolerate the mistake or failure. I force it to make some involuntary mistakes and make it sounds very funny. "Trembling - Symphony 2.0" represent the contradiction between human, machine, technology and the authority.


"Trembling - Symphony 2.0" is a sound installation that develop from "Trembling - Symphony 1.0". The 2.0 version allows user to control each device via touch screen, just like a orchestra director. This work contains 3 customized cassette tape devices. The magnetic head can vibrate with a special customized machinery. By sending sine-wave to the copper coil, the magnetic head will vibrate. The amplitude depend on the frequency, more higher, more faster. User can change such as amplitude, strength or they can choose the auto-play mode that controlled by computer program automatically.

"Trembling" is a sound installation. 8 people make the self-intro. in Japanese. The content of the intro. play from the 8 customized cassette devices. The computer program generate the different frequency of sine-wave, then output the sine-wave to the customized hard disk's head to generate the vibration and the error sound randomly. The random errors just like when we're facing the strange culture or language that would be happened.

This is a highlight version of my work @ TranSonic 2009, Taipei.

"TranSonic Sound Art Festival" is the most experimental and creative sound art performance in Taiwan. This year, the theme of the festival is "Sound, Vision and Space". By projecting video images to deconstructed spaces, artists rebuild the relationship between visualization and space dimensions, trying to bring new experience in listening and imagination.

In addition to audio-visual performances, TranSonic 2009 also presents plenty of eye-opening trans-media performances, including hand-made instruments, body sensors, air compressor sound installations and electric light installations.
